Applying as a Homeschool Student for Fall 2025 By Claire MctaggartAre you a student who has completed their education from home? If so, this article will guide you through UCalgary’s admission process as a homeschooled student. The basics If you have completed less than 12 units at an accredited post-secondary institution, we will evaluate you as a high school applicant. At the University of Calgary, high school applicants need to present five specific grade 12 courses and meet the competitive admission average for the program(s) they are applying to. Further, we require transcripts from all institutions an applicant has attended. If you have completed 12 or more units at an accredited post-secondary institution, then you will be considered a transfer applicant. What does this mean for you? If your homeschooling is supervised by an accredited school authority, the admission process may be relatively simple. To determine whether your schooling is supervised by an accredited school authority, answer two questions:
If you said yes to both questions above, your schooling is likely supervised by an accredited school authority and your first step is to review our admission requirements. Here you can consider the courses you have taken or are planning to take and compare your grades to the estimated competitive average listed for your desired program. If you are missing any required courses, consult with your school authority to see about enrolling in them. Note that high school required courses need to be completed by June 30 to be used for admission to fall. If you said no to one or both questions above, your homeschooling is likely not supervised by an accredited school authority and you will need to consider an alternate option to meet the high school applicant admission requirements. Applications for the fall 2025 term opened on October 1st, 2024. The last day to submit your application or change your program choices in the application is March 1st, 2025. It is important to note that if you change your application program choices after receiving an offer of admission, your offer of admission will be forfeited in order for us to complete a new evaluation for your updated program choice(s).
