    What is this appointment for?

Book this type of appointment if you have questions about switching from Open Studies to one of UCalgary's degree programs or if you want advice to have a more competitively viable application.  Before booking, we invite you to visit our Open Studies webpage and read the information below:

Should I book an appointment or call?

Given the complexities of transferring from another post-secondary, it is best you book an appointment with us so you can have the time to get all the answers you need. See below for booking.

    Open Studies

    • As an Open Studies student, you're eligible to take university credit courses, without being admitted into a degree program.
    • Open Studies students can take a maximum of 36 units overall (about 12 classes, or 2 years of full time coursework)
      • Students who do not have a degree can take up to 12 units (4 courses) per term for the fall and winter terms, and up to 6 units (2 courses) per term for the spring and summer terms.
      • Degree-holding students can take up to 18 units (about 6 courses) per term for the fall and winter terms, and up to 9 units (3 courses) per term for the spring and summer terms.
How to apply to a degree program
If you are currently in Open Studies and would like to switch to a degree program, you will need to submit a new application.

Students applying to a degree program who've completed 12 or more units (about 4 courses) of post-secondary coursework will be evaluated as a transfer applicant. Most Open Studies students will apply to programs through this path, and they'll need to meet a program's transfer requirements to be admitted. Please see our website for more details.

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta (Districts 5 and 6).

The University of Calgary is situated on land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, a site traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina. On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”
