    Requirements

Book this type of appointment if you want to clarify whether you qualify for a deferral or not, want more information on the conditions of your deferral, or have any other questions to do with admissions deferrals. Here's some commonly requested information to hopefully answer any questions you might have before your appointment:

    • Admissions deferrals allow a student to start their program at a later intake time. They are considered on a case-by-case basis relating to exceptional circumstances only, and approval is not guaranteed
    • Decisions will be communicated in writing 1-3 weeks after submission to the address on this form
    • A deferral request will not be approved for preference over course delivery mode, and will typically not be approved due to career opportunities, interpersonal conflicts or financial concerns
    • International students seeking a deferral because they have not yet been able to secure a study permit should connect with International Student Services immediately for any immigration or pre-arrival questions. Our advice to you is to continue with the study permit process and remain registered in your courses while you wait for your permit, though we understand that deferring admission may be a consideration for you
    • Because admissions to all UCalgary programs are competitive, required admissions averages are based on each unique group of applicants. Deferrals of admission can only be granted in exceptional circumstances as it reduces the number of seats available for the next year
    • Students who attend another post-secondary institution during the deferral period will have the deferral cancelled and must re-apply for admission
    • Students admitted to the Cumming School of Medicine (MD program), Veterinary Medicine, and Law should go to their faculty websites for faculty specific admission deferral information

For this type of appointment, we would recommend that you call us at 403-210-7625 during our business hours instead of booking an appointment for the best, quickest service. You may still book an appointment.

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta (Districts 5 and 6).

The University of Calgary is situated on land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, a site traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina. On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”
