    The Great Rex Search: A Campus Tour Adventure


    Starting university can feel like a big step, but Rex has one mission: to help future students feel at home at the University of Calgary.

    To show what that looks like, we followed him across campus as he explored the spaces that make up everyday student life. From busy gathering spots to quiet places to study, each stop gave a glimpse into what it actually feels like to be part of the UCalgary community.


    Our first clue led us to MacEwan Student Centre.

    As the heart of student life at UCalgary, Mac Hall is where campus comes alive. Whether students are grabbing lunch between classes, meeting friends for coffee, or taking a well-earned study break, there's always something happening here. Rex blended right into the crowd—somehow finding one of the busiest and most welcoming spots on campus.


    Did you spot him?

    A small set of footprints then led us to the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking.

    Known for bringing together students with big ideas, the Hunter Hub is where innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship come to life. Whether students are launching a startup, attending workshops, or exploring new opportunities, it's a space built for curious minds. It seemed like the perfect place for an adventurous dinosaur to stop by.

    The search continued.

    Inside the Taylor Family Digital Library, students were focused on assignments, projects, and preparing for exams. With a mix of quiet study areas, collaborative spaces, and resources to support every stage of university life, it's no surprise the library becomes a second home for many students. If Rex was here, he was hiding well.

    Just when we thought we were getting close, another clue appeared outside.

    Near the pond in the TFDL Quad, Rex had found the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the view. Surrounded by green space, walking paths, and one of campus's most peaceful outdoor areas, it's an ideal spot to take a study break, catch up with friends, or simply recharge between classes. Sometimes the best campus discoveries are the quiet ones.

    The trail didn't stop there.

    Our next clue led us to the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning. Between innovative learning spaces and creative study areas, Rex somehow tucked himself away in one of the building's iconic floating pods. Designed to inspire collaboration, creativity, and new ways of learning, it's one of campus's most unique spaces—and apparently, a pretty good hiding place too.

    Eventually, we caught sight of another clue leading us toward the CNRL Engineering Complex.

    There, perched on the famous social staircase, Rex seemed right at home. Known for its bright, open design and collaborative atmosphere, the Engineering Complex is one of the busiest gathering places on campus. Whether students are working on projects, meeting classmates, or simply passing through between lectures, it's a space where ideas—and friendships—come together.

    Just when we thought we'd lost the trail, a new clue appeared at the Olympic Oval.

    Home to the fastest ice in the world, the Olympic Oval is one of UCalgary's most unique campus facilities. Whether it's skating, training, or simply experiencing a venue where Olympians have competed, it's a place where students can stay active and be part of an incredible campus community. We hurried inside, keeping our eyes peeled for any sign of Rex.

    After following clues across campus, searching high and low, and uncovering some of UCalgary's most iconic spaces, we finally found Rex.

    His adventure may have started as a mystery, but along the way it became something much more—a reminder that every corner of campus has something to discover. Whether it's finding your favourite study spot, meeting friends in Mac Hall, exploring new ideas at the Hunter Hub, or taking a quiet break by the pond, every student creates their own unique UCalgary experience.
