Applying as a Homeschool Student for Fall 2025: Your Quick Guide to UCalgary Admissions

Hey homeschoolers! Ready to apply to UCalgary for Fall 2025? Whether you’ve been learning from home or a mix of both, we’re here to guide you through the application process in no time. Let’s break it down!

    The Basics

    • Under 12 post-secondary units? You’re a high school applicant and will need to meet the grade 12 course requirements for your program.

    • 12+ post-secondary units? You’re a transfer applicant.

What Does This Mean for You?

If your homeschooling is supervised by an accredited school authority, your process should be pretty straightforward. To check:

    1. Are you completing a provincially accredited curriculum?

    2. Do you have transcripts from an accredited institution or government agency?

If you said yes to both questions, your schooling is likely supervised by an accredited school authority and your first step is to review our admission requirements! Here you can consider the courses you have taken or are planning to take and compare your grades to the estimated competitive average listed for your desired program. If you are missing any required courses, consult with your school authority to see about enrolling in them. Note that high school required courses need to be completed by June 30 to be used for admission to fall.

If you said no to one or both questions above, your homeschooling is likely not supervised by an accredited school authority and you will need to consider an alternate option to meet the high school applicant admission requirements. To meet the admission requirements for your desired program, consult our admission requirements and plan to complete required courses though one of these options:

    • Alberta Diploma Exams

    • International Baccalaureate (IB) Courses

    • Advanced Placement (AP) Exams

    • Other National Curriculum Courses

If you’re unsure about your curriculum’s accreditation, reach out to a recruiter for guidance!

    When Can I Apply?

    • Applications open: October 1st, 2024

    • Deadline: March 1st, 2025

It is important to note that if you change your application program choices after receiving an offer of admission, your offer of admission will be forfeited in order for us to complete a new evaluation for your updated program choice(s).

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta (Districts 5 and 6).

The University of Calgary is situated on land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, a site traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina. On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”
