    Helping you Choose a Program

Ready to submit your application, but don’t know which program is the best fit for you? In this blog, you can learn more about the different resources that are available for you to explore UCalgary’s different programs.

With over 250+ program options, it can be incredibly overwhelming to narrow down the top two choices for your application. Luckily, we understand and are here to help! There are many ways to explore the University of Calgary and its programs. Initially, on your application, we are just asking for you to select your top two majors. Adding minors, embedded certificates, etc. are choices that you would make in your upper years and will not be a part of the initial application.

When narrowing down your top two choices, we suggest taking advantage of the following resources:

    • Take a campus tour: The best way to get to know your future campus is to experience it! Explore our programs to find your perfect fit by taking a campus tour. This is your opportunity to hear from current students about their experiences and explore our spaces! Our campus tours are available online and in-person year-round.
    • Choose UCalgary Podcast: The Choose UCalgary Podcast is your one stop shop to learn more about our programs, admissions, campus life and to hear undergraduate student experiences from various faculties, clubs, backgrounds and other areas at the University of Calgary. Listen in to hear from students and professors about their experiences in the different UCalgary programs.
    • Book an appointment with your Recruiter: UCalgary has a dedicated team of Student Recruitment Advisors who are responsible for supporting prospective undergraduate students, parents, community members and guidance counsellors. Our team is here to answer all the questions you have about becoming a UCalgary Dino! From admission requirements to campus services and life in Calgary, connecting with the recruitment team is a fantastic way to start your UCalgary journey. The Student Recruitment Team offers both in-person and virtual options to meet for a 1 on 1 advising appointment.

Explore our online program exploration tools:

Take advantage of our online tools to help you explore programs, different classes and future career paths.

    • Career Wheel: The Career Wheel is an excellent resource to start your planning and review the common stages of the career development process. Finding a career you love is hardly a straight line, and accessing this online workshop can help you plan and receive these common stages of your career development.
    • Degree profiles: Not sure what career paths are available for each major? Check out our degree profiles to see where our graduates are now working. This resource can help you find clarity and gain confidence on your career path through looking at the potential jobs, key details and attributes, potential classes and questions that will guide your studies.
    • First-Year Degree Guide: Access our online directory to see the courses you will complete in your first year of study in each major. This can help you gain a better understanding of required classes you will complete in your first year and can paint a picture of each program.
    • 10 Minute Admissions Presentations: Watch our 10 minute admission presentations to learn more about Calgary, campus services and programs from our Recruitment team.
    • Customize your Degree: Although you won't be adding in many customizations to your application initially, it can be a good idea to explore the different customization options to get a better idea of where your UCalgary degree can take you! If you would like to apply for a combined degree, you can complete this in your initial application as long as it is an approved combination.

If you are still unsure of what program to pick, come and talk to us! You can book a virtual meeting with our Recruitment team or book an in-person appointment with us on campus.

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta (Districts 5 and 6).

The University of Calgary is situated on land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, a site traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina. On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”
