Applying as a BC Applicant for the fall 2025 intake

Starting university in a new or different province can expand your horizons and challenge you to try new things! To support your application to UCalgary, this article will take you through the application process for a student from British Columbia.

    Where should I start?

Before you begin your application, you will want to explore our 250+ programs and program combinations spread across 10 faculties. You will discover programs that interest you and help you select your top two program choices.

Our application allows you to apply to two programs; a first choice, and a second choice. If you receive an offer to your first choice, this is the only offer you will receive. We recommend you rank your choices with your most desired program as your first choice. Choose a program with a lower competitive admission average as your second choice.

Once you know which programs you will apply to, make sure you check the admission requirements for both programs. If you apply to a combined degree, you will need to meet the admission requirements for each program.

    How do I apply?

British Columbian students will need to apply through the ApplyAlberta website before they can submit a UCalgary application. To do this, you will need to complete the following:

    1. Sign in using a Google account, Microsoft account or create an Alberta.ca account. If you logged in via Google or Microsoft, skip to step 6.

    2. If you created an Alberta.ca account, you will receive an e-mail from ApplyAlberta prompting you to confirm your account. Follow the instructions to proceed.

    3. Create an Alberta Student Number (ASN) when prompted. If you have previously completed any type of schooling or training in Alberta, or if you have previously applied to a post-secondary school in Alberta, it is possible you may already have an ASN and therefore do not need to create a new one. If one of these situations applies to you, search the Alberta Learner Registry to determine whether you already have an ASN.

    4. If prompted to Confirm ID, do not click "Verify Account." This will require you to confirm your identity using an Alberta driver’s license, which is not required for the application. Instead, in the top right corner, click "Available services.”

    1. Scroll down to "Post Secondary and Education" and click "Apply to programs at Alberta's post-secondary institutions." This will redirect you to AppyAlberta. Select "Login to Resume Application" and enter your Alberta.ca account information.

    1. Complete the AppyAlberta application. When prompted to include Provincial/Territorial Student Numbers under 'Additional Information', you must include your British Columbia student number (Personal Education Number - PEN). Note: Including your correct PEN is required for us to receive the transcript you will send through BC Ministry of Education and Child Care’s Student Transcript Service  (below).
    1. When prompted to choose an institution, select the University of Calgary.
    2. If you have applied to UCalgary before, enter your existing eID and password. If not, create a UCalgary eID and password, then proceed to log in.
    3. Complete and submit your UCalgary application.
    4. Pay your $125 (Canadian education) or $145 (International credentials) application fee.

    Sending in transcripts

British Clumbia  transcripts must be shared through  BC Ministry of Education and Child Care’s Student Transcript Service by selecting "ApplyAlberta" as the receiving organization. As long as you applied through ApplyAlberta, include your correct PEN in the application and select the option that allows the post-secondary institution to request updates until September 1, 2026, we will automatically receive your transcript when you first send it, after semester 1, and at the end of the school year when you finish semester 2.

For non-semester/linear schools, students can submit interim transcripts with their mid-year assessment or marks after January 1. Interim transcripts can be uploaded via the Student Centre; documents should include your full name.

If you have attended any other high school or post-secondary institution outside Alberta, BC, or Saskatchewan, please refer to our documents page for more details on transcript submission.

What else can I do after I have applied?

We encourage you to take a guided tour of campus or attend a virtual event. If you would like to explore more on your own, you can download our Discover UCalgary App, which will lead you through a self-guided tour of campus. Our app will take you on a tour of campus even if you can’t physically make it to Calgary!

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta (Districts 5 and 6).

The University of Calgary is situated on land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, a site traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina. On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”
